Research on European terrestrial orchids has been conducted as part of the conservation biology activities of the Institute since 1978. Much of the results of this research is published, for the most part in French, in the publications of the Naturalistes Belges. However, a number of reports and documents were also generated and a very large collection of photographic documents accumulated. These, which have been so far of less easy access, will be progressively made available on the net. Electronic publications already available, or envisioned for the near future, include:
- A photographic documentation of Western Palaearctic terrestrial orchids. This is an online presentation of the collections of the Institute, including photographs and specimens, in particular, type specimens, organized within a systematic framework that corresponds to current views on phylogenetic relationships, in particular, as they derive from the work of the staff of the Institute.
- A list of the publications of the Conservation Biology Section pertinent to orchidology and orchid conservation biology, with indications of availability and, in some cases, online extended English summaries or abridged translations.
- Previously unpublished documents on orchid ecology or conservation extracted from contributions of the Conservation Biology Section to more general projects of habitat typification or conservation biology.
- Occasional photographic documentation on orchids of parts of the world other than the Western Palaearctic, assembled in the course of field work of the Conservation Biology Section and available within its habitat-oriented photographic database. These concern mostly North America and southern South America.
