Observations of orchids made mostly in 1979 and 1980 in Belgian Lorraine, the southern Ardennes, the Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse, central Brabant and the northeastern coastal region are reported. Taxonomic discussions pertain to a first record for Belgium of plants showing characters of the Epipactis leptochila group, later identified as Epipactis neglecta, of the Belgian Lorraine populations of Dactylorhiza incarnata and of calcareous fen colonies of Gymnadenia conopsea with the characters of var. densiflora. Significant distributional records are presented for Dactylorhiza majalis, D. praetermissa, D. sphagnicola, Gymnadenia conopsea, Orchis morio, Orchis ustulata, Ophrys sphegodes, Epipactis palustris, E. muelleri, E. purpurata, Cephalanthera longifolia. Photographs document the presence of Ophrys sphegodes in its only remaining Belgian station at Torgny and of Dactylorhiza sphagnicola in a new station at the Croix-Scaille, as well as the morphology of Dactylorhiza incarnata in Belgian Lorraine, of D. praetermissa at Knokke and of Epipactis leptochila in the northern French department of Ardennes.
