Data Bases

A number of data bases are administered by the Section of Conservation Biology in support of conservation programmes and projects. Some of them were created as part of those programmes, others were initiated by the Royal Belgian Institute in the course of other research activities and are now maintained by the Section. All may be consulted by the interested public. They will progressively be made available on-line in complete form. As a first step, summaries of elaborated data or extracts of the primary contents are offered as described below. All texts included are scientific working documents, presented in the language they were originally prepared.

A catalogue of habitat types of the world organized according to the CORINE methodology. Hierarchic classification based on similarities in physiognomy, plant and animal communities. Parallel lists prepared for each biogeographical realm. Complete frameworks, partial developments and local extracts provided on-line for the Palaearctic region and South America. Local extracts provided for Africa.
